Lot 297 AN ANTIQUE OTTOMAN MONEY BAG (KESE) WITH FINE SILVER AND GOLD EMBROIDERY

An antique Ottoman money bag (Kese), brocaded and embroidered with silver and gold threads. These noble pouches served the Ottoman upper class for the prestigious storage and ceremonial presentation of coins and precious state documents. The face panel displays a highly complex relief embroidery made of the finest metal threads: A central, wheel-shaped floral medallion is surmounted by an opulent, crowning palmette and volute arrangement. The fine Baroque-influenced ornamentation (typical of the 19th-century Ottoman court style) is perfectly framed by a surrounding geometric border with small sequin and bead accents.
