Lot AN ILLUMINATED SULTANATE QURAN, NORTH INDIA, 16TH CENTURY

A complete Qur’an manuscript in Arabic on paper, comprising 508 folios. Each folio contains 16 lines in black Bihari script. The text is ruled within double red borders, with tajwīd markings and verse roundels in red ink. Sura headings are inscribed in red naskh script. Occasional marginal notes indicate Juz’, Hizb, and other textual divisions. The two opening bifolia are richly decorated with polychrome designs framing seven lines of text within cloud bands. Bound in a later deep brown morocco leather binding. 7.5 × 11.5 cm.
