Up for auction is a charming and color-rich antiquity of Anatolian flatweave art: An antique Central Anatolian kilim in a highly sought-after small format, hand-woven around 1900. Despite its compact dimensions, this textile work of art unfolds immense visual power. The inner field is characterized by an asymmetrical, almost block-like composition: It combines diamond-shaped medallions with sharply serrated hook bands embedded in contrasting fields of deep brown, vibrant magenta, indigo blue, and ivory. Fine, white protective and star crosses are located at the centers. The restless, dynamic design perfectly reflects the primal creativity of nomadic weavers. A special eye-catcher is the striking, white-ground main border that frames the field on three sides (highly typical of this provenance). It displays a rhythmic row of stylized, tree- or chalice-like motifs, dyed with pure vegetable colors in alternating nuances. The kilim is in a generally good state of preservation with a firm, stable weave structure and intact ends. Due to its handy size and modern graphic impact, this collector's piece is ideally suited as an exquisite wall hanging or as a characterful accent in sophisticated interiors. • Condition: Generally good condition (very beautiful, well-maintained collector's condition with an authentic patina and firm edges). • Dimensions (Metric): 148 by 76 cm.
