Up for auction is a museum-quality and high-caliber antiquity of Central Asian knotting art: An antique Karadashli Yomud Chuval from Turkmenistan, crafted around the middle of the 19th century (circa 1850). 07 Chuvals were the largest and most prestigious clothing and storage bags within the Turkmen yurt. This magnificent piece is attributed to the rare sub- tribe of the Karadashli (Yomut confederation) and represents a true rarity on the international collector's market. The inner field captivates with a strictly organized grid system of nine striking, geometric primary güls (tribal medallions), whose archaic, clear design is highly characteristic of this early era. The medallions are flanked by delicate, secondary cross motifs (chemche güls). The weave glows in deep, absolutely authentic natural dyes such as the characteristic dark walnut and aubergine red, contrasted by accents in indigo blue and unbleached natural wool. A special quality feature is the wide, solid-colored lower end-skirt (elem), which completes the traditional aesthetic. This over 170-year-old textile artwork is in a remarkably good and collectable condition with a stable weave structure. An absolute highlight for high-end collections of Turkmen tribal art. • Condition: Good condition (excellently preserved, authentic collector's condition). • Dimensions (Metric): 120 by 75 cm.
