Up for auction is a characterful and authentic antiquity of oriental flatweave art: An antique Shahsevan kilim runner from Northwest Persia / South Caucasus, masterfully hand-woven around 1900. These works by the nomadic Shahsevan confederation are highly esteemed among collectors for their rigorous geometric aesthetic and the use of excellent natural dyes. The long inner field is divided into contrasting horizontal bands (striped design). These alternate between solid color blocks in indigo blue, madder red, and natural brown, and fine patterned bands adorned with stylized diamonds, combs, and tribal protective symbols. The wide main border masterfully frames the field with a powerful, serrated zigzag and diamond pattern on a light ground. Reflecting its age of over 120 years, this collector's item is in an authentic, unrestored original condition. In accordance with its age and nomadic use, the runner features some structural damage and holes in the weave (see detailed photos). For collectors and lovers of historical textile art, this piece offers an excellent, honest substance for professional restoration or conservation. A monumental document of textile tribal history with a strong visual presence. • Condition: Authentic collector's condition with signs of use (some damage and holes present in the weave). • Dimensions (Metric):280 by 120 cm.
