Up for auction is a museum-quality masterpiece and an absolute classic of Caucasian knotting art: An antique Eagle Kazak (Chelaberd / Sun Kazak), created in the Caucasus around 1880. Among collectors, the design of the Eagle Kazak is considered one of the most powerful and expressive creations in the entire history of rug art. The brick-red inner field is dominated by two monumental, double-armed medallions (often interpreted as "eagle motifs"). These captivate with their archaic, geometric rigor and the dynamic interplay of radiant ivory, deep indigo blue, emerald green, and saffron yellow. The field is also richly filled with small, stylized star and floral motifs, enclosed by a classic Caucasian "running dog" and star border. The rug is in an authentic collector's and age-appropriate condition. Reflecting its advanced age of over 140 years, the piece features a generally low pile as well as professionally executed, historical repairs. These signs of age are absolutely common for original Caucasian rugs from this early era and document the honest history of this textile work of art. An extremely expressive and rare exhibit that should not be missing from any discerning Caucasus collection. • Condition: Generally low pile, historical repairs (authentic collector's condition). • Dimensions (Metric): 190 by 135 cm.
