Lot 167 AN INDO-PERSIAN METAL CASKET WITH GILT FLORAL DECORATION AND AGATE CABOCHON, 20TH CENTURY

An ornate Indo-Persian rectangular metal casket with a hinged, domed lid, decorated throughout with finely engraved and gilt floral motifs, flowering trees, scrolling foliage and geometric borders against a darkened ground. The lid is centred with an oval agate cabochon set within a raised bezel, surrounded by elaborate symmetrical floral and foliate ornament. The front features a small drawer with a curved metal handle and gilt floral decoration. The interior is lined with wood, and the casket is raised on a projecting rectangular base.
