A Persian manuscript on paper, On both sides comprising verses from a ghazal by the celebrated poet Hilali Jaghata’i (d. 1527). The verses are written in elegant nastaʿliq script in black ink, arranged in alternating horizontal and diagonally set compartments on a warm, gold-flecked cream ground. Individual sections are punctuated by delicate illuminated triangular cornerpieces, richly decorated with scrolling floral and arabesque motifs in cobalt blue, gold, red and white. The composition is enclosed by finely ruled borders and a broad gilt floral margin, further surrounded by richly patterned marbled paper in blue, grey, ochre and gold. 15.5 by 25 cm
