Lot 210 A COBALT BLUE MOLDED GLASS JUGLET, EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN, 1ST–3RD CENTURY AD

A striking molded glass juglet of deep cobalt-blue translucent glass, distinguished by its compact hexagonal body with slightly tapering sides and rounded shoulders. Each side is decorated in high relief with molded geometric and vegetal motifs enclosed within beaded borders, creating a richly textured surface that contrasts with the vessel's otherwise simple form. Rising from the center is a short cylindrical neck that terminates in a broad, horizontally flared mouth with a neatly fire-rounded rim. A single applied strap handle extends gracefully from the rim to the shoulder, its terminals carefully folded and integrated into the vessel. The vessel rests on a flat, polygonal base bearing a pronounced circular kick, while the thick walls and crisp molded decoration demonstrate skilled mold-blown manufacture. The rich cobalt-blue glass displays a lustrous surface softened by weathering, with scattered mineral deposits, pale iridescent encrustation, and light earthen accretions that accentuate the relief decoration.
