Lot 216 A COBALT BLUE GLASS SPRINKLER FLASK, 9TH–11TH CENTURY

A finely blown cobalt-blue glass sprinkler flask of elegant and balanced proportions, comprising a compressed globular body supported on a neatly folded circular foot and surmounted by a long, slender cylindrical neck that gradually flares to a plain, fire-rounded rim. The harmonious transition from the broad, rounded body to the attenuated neck creates a refined, architectural silhouette characteristic of medieval Islamic glass production. The vessel is entirely undecorated, relying on the purity of its form and the richness of its color for visual effect. Fashioned from vivid cobalt-blue translucent glass, the surface exhibits a soft satin-like sheen.
