Lot 217 A MOLDED HEXAGONAL GLASS BOTTLE, 7TH–9TH CENTURY

A finely mold-blown glass bottle of compact hexagonal form, fashioned in translucent pale blue-green glass with a subtly lustrous surface enriched by extensive iridescence and weathering. The vessel rises from a flat hexagonal base with sharply defined faceted sides that taper gently to broad, sloping shoulders, culminating in a short cylindrical neck with a neatly fire-rounded rim. Each of the six body panels is framed by a raised beaded border and decorated in crisp relief with alternating ornamental motifs: elongated lozenge-shaped cartouches enclosing a central raised diamond alternate with elegant foliate scrolls, creating a balanced and rhythmic decorative scheme. The molded ornament remains remarkably well preserved, its relief accentuated by the vessel's soft silvery weathering and mineral encrustation acquired over centuries of burial. The harmonious interplay of angular geometry, delicately modeled decoration, and luminous weathered glass imparts an exceptional elegance to the vessel, exemplifying the refined craftsmanship of early mold-blown glass production.
