Lot 208 A LARGE METAL THREAD-EMBROIDERED CALLIGRAPHIC PANEL (HIZAM), SAUDIA ARABIA 20TH CENTURY

A rectangular calligraphic panel on a black silk ground, richly embroidered in gilt and silver metal-threads. The elongated central cartouche bears a bold inscription in powerful thuluth script, its sweeping letters executed in raised gilt thread. Scrolling vine motifs run above and below the cartouche, while the spandrels are adorned with stylised floral elements and partial flowerheads, creating a dense yet elegant ornamental frame. Approx: 100 by 292 cm

Inscriptions: surah al-Haj, v.28 (part) -v.29, ending with sadaqa Allah al-azim (Allah the Great has spoken the truth).
