Lot 69 ONI MEADATE 前立 (HELMET CREST)

A striking maedate 前立 (helmet crest) shaped like an oni 鬼 (demon), crafted from gilded lacquered wood with a metal fitting at the back.

The expressive design features long arching horns, large sideward-protruding ears, a fierce face with small inlaid beady eyes, a sharply defined V-shaped brow, and pronounced upward-pointing fangs.

Period: Japan – Late Edo period (first half 19th century)
