A kakejiku 掛け軸 (hanging scroll), featuring a tranquil painting of a samurai seated beneath a thin, curving pine tree matsu 松 (pine), illuminated by the soft glow of the moon.
The samurai is shown resting, his full suit of armour removed and stored in the box beside him, with his kabuto 兜 (helmet) placed atop. He sits comfortably on a leopard fur, wearing a blue robe, holding a partially opened fan, and gazing up at the moon. His two swords rest at his side. Nearby, his horse stands quietly, fully unarmoured and tethered close by.
