A large wooden okimono 置物 carved in the form of a taka 鷹 (hawk) descending from the top of a natural branch formation. Its wings are dramatically spread wide, with curled claws just grazing the surface as it leaps toward its prey. The eyes are inlaid with yellow glass. The base is formed from a natural branch, full of swirling outcrops, overgrowths, burls, and roots.

The underside of the tail bears a burned signature: ‘Made by Yôai’ 鷹安作 (Yôai saku).

Period: Japan – Mid-Shôwa period (mid-20th century)

In very good original condition. The taka 鷹 (hawk) can be removed from the base. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
