A luxurious Japanese lacquered storage trunk hasami’bako 鋏箱 (traveling storage trunk), adorned with crests mon 紋 (crest) depicting mitsu imokashiwa 三つ芋柏 (three ‘potato’ oak leaves), and accentuated with gilded rims. The design is rendered in gold hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) on a glossy black lacquer ground蝋色漆 (rôiro’urushi).
The trunk is fitted with elegantly shaped gilt bronze metalwork, engraved with scrolling foliage, geometric motifs, and the matching crest. The long sides feature pole-carrying handles for easy transport. The interior includes a well-fitted removable lacquered tray, with the remainder lined in paper. The base is fitted with a separate removable lacquered plaque.
