A fine Japanese gunpowder flask 火薬入 (kayaku’ire), circular in shape with a long circular spout and finished with a slightly textured black lacquer coating. The surface is fitted with bronze appliques—both the front and reverse feature a hexagonal frame enclosing a reticulated circle.
The spout and cord rings are mounted with chrysanthemum-shaped escutcheons, while the arrow-shaped ornaments are embellished with a subtle scrolling foliage motif.
Period: Japan – Second half Edo period (18th to first half 19th century)
