A refined patinated bronze maedate 前立 (helmet crest) by Myôchin Muneyoshi 明珍宗吉 (active mid-19th century), shaped like a ken 剣 (double-edged straight sword). The lower pin is fitted with a small circular opening for attachment.
The reverse bears a carved inscription: ‘Made by Myôchin Muneyoshi’ 明珍宗吉作.
Myôchin Muneyoshi 明珍宗吉 (active mid-19th century) was an armorer associated with the Shônai branch of the renowned Myôchin 明珍 school of metalworkers. Serving the Sakai family of the Shônai domain 庄内藩酒井家 (Shônai-han Sakai-ke), he belonged to the regional lineage known as Shônai Myôchin-ha 庄内明珍派, known for its fine craftsmanship in armour production.
