A beautiful, large bronze kôro 香炉 (censer) by the artist Kanô Reiho 加茂霊峰 (1903-1981). Crafted in a navette shape with an Art Deco-style design and a dark silver patina. The cover features an openwork swirling line motif, encircled by two tapered bands.
Underside signed ‘Reiho’ 霊峰.
Little is known about the sculptor Kanô Reiho, but his work reflects a mastery of the lost-wax technique. One of his pieces is part of the collection at the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto 京都国立近代美術館. He also played a role in passing on his craft, with Takahashi Ako 高橋阿子 counted among his students.
