Impressive, large 4-tiered inlaid lacquer jûbako 重箱 (tiered food container/stacked picnic box).
The rounded rectangular box raised on four feet, the exterior richly decorated with small mother-of-pearl 螺鈿 (raden) inlays in iridescent shades of blue and pink. Each side with three lobed reserves decorated in gold and green hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) with leafy peony branches 牡丹 (botan) on a finely sprinkled dark red lacquer ground. The domed top of the cover with a larger reserve similarly executed depicting a ribboned jar. The interiors lacquered in black with red edges. The underside of each compartment signed ‘Takemura’ 竹むら.

In a good condition with some wear, tiny nicks, and light surface scratches conform age. The interiors and edges with minor losses to lacquer and small chips. One foot reattached.
