A large Indo-Persian engraved brass celestial globe, signed 'Amal Nasir al-Din Tusi' and dated AH 1305/1887-88 AD, Iran, of typical spherical form, the globe engraved with markings, figures and astrological symbols, inscriptions in naskh throughout, engraved with pictorial representations of the constellations, signed and dated at the north celestial pole, the ecliptic and celestial equator divided in degrees and minutes, with tropical and polar circles, with brass axis mounted on a horizon circle and stand, the four slender tapering columns uniting the horizon circle and cruciform stand.
With stand 26 cm. high, without stand globe 18 cm. diam.

This globe is very close in decoration and script to one sold at Sotheby's, Arts of the Islamic World, 25 April 2012, Lot 584. Another celestial globe bearing the same signature was sold at Christie's, 26 April, 1994
