The vase is elegantly potted with a pear-shaped body supporting a slender neck and flaring rim, the body is ribbed in imitation of bamboo. The exterior is incised to every other rib with evenly-spaced bamboo shoots.

Catalogue notes: There are several published examples of vessels with this 'bamboo' decoration, including a melon-shaped ewer and cover in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City dated to the first half of the 12th century, accession no. 1996.471, also those published in the Lee’um Samsung Museum, Seoul, accession no. 11.1819, and held in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and illustrated in Jane Portal, 'Arts of Korea', 2012, Boston.
