A gilded and partly decorated with gold makie-lacquer floral scrolls with peonies on a black background suit-of-armour (yoroi) with white cords (tetsu kuro’urushinuri okegawa nimaidō gusoku). A eightteen-plate sujikabuto helmet, its fukikaeshi decorated with the Hikone-tachibana-crest (the mandarin orange crest) of the Ii clan of the Hikone Fief (maru ni tachibana mon). In front of the helmet is a wooden monster head with gilded horns maedate. Seven-piece sode with purple tassels protect the shoulders and kote with gilded Japanese mail and gourd shaped pieces (fukubekote) the arms. A two-piece bucket shaped cuirass decorated with peony floral scroll, the tachibana-crest in gold makie-lacquer and in front and at the back two purple tassels. The upper part of the cuirass has vertical laced horizontal strips (munatori). From the cuirass hangs a skirt of seven five-piece kusazuri. The large haidate that protect the upper legs show vertical laced horizontal gilded strips over brocate. Gilded cylindrical suneate each with a large ōtateage (knee-piece) protect the lower legs, an Edo period innovation. With an orange waistband. In a black chest for a suit-of-armour (yoroibitsu) decorated with the tachibana crest in gold makie lacquer.
