A very large hanging scroll (kakejiku) with a slightly tinted monochrome painting on silk of a jumping koi-carp by the painter Okamoto Shūki (1807-1862) known for his paintings of animals and one of the great painters of the Bakumatsu period whose work is included in the collection of the National Museum in Tokyo and in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The painting is signed: Shūki. The mounting with a brocade border shows some slight wear. In a marked box.
