Gouache pigments heightened with gold on paper, laid down on album page and decorated to the outer border with flower scrolls. The scene shows the occasion on which Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan honors his son Aurangzeb in Agra before his wedding to Dilras Banu Begam. Aurangzeb had just returned from the Deccan, where he was stationed to oversee the Mughal conquest of that region of India. Folio: 51 by 34 cm. Painting: 24 by 33.5 cm.
