A Chinese Qiangjin and Tianqi lacquer circular box and cover

The lacquer box is incised with gilt and filled in with a central octafoil panel enclosing a 'shou' character roundel surrounded by five bats, wufu, amongst clouds. All set on a wan-design ground. The sides of the cover and base are decorated with further quatrefoil bat and 'shou' panels interspersed with flowers and Buddhist emblems. The interior is lacquered black and decorated with scattered gilt flowers and inscribed 'neiwu fu beiyong' (for the use of the inner court), and the base with a gilt Tongzhi six-character mark.
