A section from a longer weaving, the fragment is woven various vibrant threads to depict an upper register of long-tailed phoenix alternating with a flower head. The main register depicts Buddhist lions clutching in its mouth the ribbon of a brocade ball, amongst cloud scrolls, all above a band of parasols. Mounted. Provenance: from a private Dutch collection. Catalogue notes: Compare an almost identical brocade section from the Myrna and Samuel Myers Collection published in J. Vollmer, Silks for Thrones and Altars, Paris, 2003, p. 87.
