The vase is decorated with a scene from the Ode to the Red Cliff with figures in a boat on a swiftly moving river amongst cliffs, and trees. The reverse is decorated with a lady and a soldier each riding a qilin below a crane in flight. The neck is decorated with an excerpt from the story, entitled 'Ti Chibi fu', and with the signature of 'Su Shi', the Song writer.
