An opium set

The set consists of: a pipe carved with an ivory handle and ivory hand supporting the pipe bowl; a brass lamp and a carved glass lamp chimney; a white metal canister decorated in repousse with the Eight Buddhist Emblems, bajixiang, and stamped 'Zhang' and 'ji chang'; three knives with horn handles; a wood brazier with two compartments; and a wood tray marked 'Dong Zhi Fang' in red lacquer to the underside.

Condition: dents and tarnishing to the metal accessories; chips to one horn knife handle and the ivory handle; the glass chimney is cracked; the brazier is mounted onto a later wooden stand, the compartments are reinforced with nails; the tray - one foot affixed with screws, water stains, age cracks to the wood
