Catalogue notes: The pieces from the Nanking Cargo, like the 'landscape' bowl in the current lot, were from a ship belonging to the Dutch East India Company (VOC) called the Geldermalsen which sunk on its way back to Europe in 1752. The ship was salvaged by Captain Michael Hatcher and the contents sold in an iconic auction at Christie's Amsterdam in 1986.
