A soapstone figure of Cao Guojiu

The smiling Immortal is carved wearing a scholar's cap and official's robes which are decorated with incised floral designs and cloud scrolls. Cradled in his left arm is his attribute, official castanets. The details of the figure are highlighted in black pigment.

Catalogue notes: Cao Guojiu is one of the Eight Immortals and is associated with his attribute, castanets, however sometimes he is also pictured with a jade tablet. He is the patron deity of acting and theatre.
