Each vase is decorated to the body with shaped panels enclosing alternating elegant ladies, precious objects, and landscapes, all below a lappet band at the shoulder and rim, and a ruyi-head band at the neck and foot.
Catalogue notes: According to Prof. Dr. C.J.A. Jörg, the shape of these vases comes from 15th and 16th century versions inspired by Persian or North Indian metal models. Compare vases held in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam and Museum Boymans van Beuningen, Rotterdam. Another pair is illustrated the Leonard Gow Collection.
