The stool is decorated with and openwork foliate knot design, the wood is inlaid with vertical prunus branches and foliate leafy designs. The top is ringed with mother-of-pearl nodes, the circular grey top panel is surrounded with a further floral scroll.
Catalogue notes: a stool of similar form without mother-of-pearl inlay dating to the 19th century was sold at Christie's New York, 16 March 2017, lot 603.
Condition: some losses to the mother-of-pearl inlay, some infilled repairs, some repairs to the joins, one loose joint by the foot; surface scratches and a few cracks to the wood consistent with age.
