A Chinese woven brass and lacquer-decorated rectangular chest

Each face is decorated with an intricately woven brass 'wan' design. The front with a foliate lockplate, the sides are furnished with lock-shaped handles. The narrow edges are decorated with a thin cinnabar lacquer border, the interior is lacquered black.

Condition: wear to the brass weave revealing the wooden base layer; dents to the metal edging and a few minor losses; chips and losses to the lacquer and cracks to the wood consistent with age; the hinges slightly loose.
