A Chinese famille rose 'narrative' teapot and cover

The cylindrical teapot is decorated to one side with a scholar kneeling before an official, with further scholars attending, all in a fenced garden under trees. The reverse is inscribed with a birthday poem and dated jiyou year (corresponding to 1909), made by Luo Yongfa. The cover is surmounted by a peach finial.

Catalogue notes: The 'Luo Yongfa' artist or company mark has been known to be operating at the turn of the 20th century.
