The teapot is decorated with a gilt panel enclosing a garden scene of a scholar admiring a scroll below a pine tree, with an attendant serving tea and a further attendant at the stove. The reverse is decorated with a similarly shaped panel framing an imperial poem by the Qianlong emperor, Brewing Tea by Hui Spring (Jihuiquan peng zhulu ge), and by two seals reading Qian and Long. The panels are reserved on a pale turquoise sgraffiato ground, amongst bats grasping beribboned wan symbols and scrolls. The interior and base enameled in turquoise and the base with an apocryphal Qianlong mark.
