A lapis lazuli carving of a elephant with cloisonné mounts and stand

The elephant is shown standing foursquare with head turned towards its tail, its back draped with cloisonne enamel saddle blanket supporting a cloisonne enamel vase, which is decorated to each side with two roundels enclosing the characters 'da' and 'ji', meaning good fortune. The roundels are surrounded by lotus flowers, all reserved on a turquoise ground with a gilt lappet border to the base. All on a stand, decorated with lotus flowers on a turquoise ground.
