The hexagonal rack is decorated and gilt with openwork panels depicting figures and precious objects, all standing on six Buddhist lion feet. the cover is decorated with a narrative scene to one side and figures in a mountainous landscape to the other.
Catalogue notes: Variously called 'beet-chien' in Malaysia and 'chien-arb' in Malacca and Singapore, these offering racks would have been a type of Straits Chinese ware. Skewers of glacé crystallized preserved fruits or other sweetmeats would be inserted into the protruding tubes at the top.
