Wood, metal, base. Kota-Obamba. This type of figure is best known from the Master of the Sebe river. He worked early 19th century. His division of forehead / face is 2:1, giving his figures their very characteristic expression. With later figures the division forehead / face is 1:1, such as on this figure. The dark patina of this figure is original, the shiny versions were cleaned after arrival in Europe. The lozenge shape on the back is clearly defined and well carved. When viewed from the side there is a clear continuum between front and back. Old French collection. Height 38 cm without base.
