This book is a Dutch translation of the famous travel account by George Sandys, one of the most notable English travelers of the 17th century. It presents a detailed description of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Ottoman Empire—its history, government, laws, military power, customs, and trade. It also includes accounts of Egypt, its antiquities and ancient religion, as well as descriptions of the Holy Land and several Mediterranean regions such as Italy, Cyprus, Malta, Sicily, the Peloponnese, Crete, and others.
Published in Amsterdam by Baltes Boeckholt in 1665, the book is illustrated with 30 fine copperplate engravings accompanying the text. 21,5 by 16,5 cm.
