A HEAVY BRONZE POT, BYZANTINE, 6TH-7TH CENTURY AD

A large heavy bronze cooking vessel with a round body and short, wide neck. The pot was suspended by an iron handle which is attached by an iron collar to the neck of the pot. The iron collar is riveted to the neck and two lugs are formed in the collar to support the handle. The handle itself has a ring attached from a loop at its centre to allow the vessel to be suspended over fire.
