TWO OVAL SILVER BOWLS, SASSANIAN 4TH-5TH CENTURY AD

Reference: ART600847

Two boat or kidney shaped Sassanian bowls, the smaller being undecorated while the larger has a cross shaped motif mercury gilded on the underside. The Sassanians very much preferred this shape for their vessels and they are not found in other cultures. They usually have no bases so they have to be very finely crafted in order to stand alone upright.
