A GREEK SCARABOID WITH A RUNNING STAG IN AGATE, 5TH CENTURY BC

Reference: ART600785

An agate scaraboid showing a stag running towards the left. It is carved in a variegated banded agate or sardonyx.

The animal is very finely rendered and suggests that the seal was made by an engraver in Greece, possibly one of the famous schools of engraving in the islands.

18 x13 x 6 mm Banded agate. Greek, 5th c. B.C.
