A Roman gold ring with a garnet intaglio shaped in the profile of the portrait of a Lady possibly Livia(?) This technique originated in Ptolemaic Egypt in the 3rd century B.C and continued till early Roman period . This specialised technique requires more work in the carving and the setting of the intaglio . Because of the difficulties in manufacturing such rings are very rare. Good condition.
