A very well modeled bronze appliqué from the Order culture in Central Asia/Siberia. The Ordos culture spread from the steppes north of the Black Sea to the Altai mountains of Siberia and was remarkably productive in the number of such bronzes which have come down to us. They relate to the Scythians who post-date them and as such their art is extremely influential in later periods. Here we have a very well made example of large proportions and well defined and finished. The horse obviously played a very important part of this nomadic culture's existence so its pre-eminence in their art is all the more understandable.
