A highly important late Roman ring with ten uncut diamonds set in individual mounts which are soldered onto a ten faceted shank. The individual cells are then attached with 'S' shaped elements soldered between them while two golden spherical elements are soldered to the shank. The nearest parallels to this ring are the multi-celled rings which contain various semi precious stones, the best known example is from the 'Thetford Hoard'. Then there are early Byzantine bracelets which have similarly structured elements used to hold stones with similar claw mounts.
