A Roman intaglio of a kneeling Satyr in dark banded agate. The Satyr is kneeling to the left holding a cornucopia. The Bacchic subject suggests the Satyr is about to offer or empty the cornucopia. Brown banded agate/sardonyx.
A very fine small intaglio from the period of Augustus. The satyr is extremely well proportioned and the engraver has a very fine sense of composition, often seen in this period.
Diameter: 9 mm.
