Each in the form of a tapering octagonal base, surmounted by busts of Mercury wearing a petasus, the feathers, eyes and nostrils enhanced by incision, an arm on either side of the shaft with an upturned incised swans terminal. The lateral loops for the harness leads are formed from an acanthus leaf from which emerges a swan's head.
Both 16 cm. height, 18 cm. length

CONDITION
The pair are in very fine condition and excellent patina.

PROVENANCE
An European private collection, previously in an old German collection before 1970s. Thence by descent .
