A late Roman/early Byzantine gold ring. The shank is made of a six lobed element soldering a back plate, lateral sides and a repousse sheet to the top. There are six small loops to hold a wire which would have had river pearls nestling in the hollows. At the centre is a circular cell with a cabochon garnet surrounded by filigreed beads. The shank is made from three wires, two are beaded while the central flat wire zig zags between them. A charming and well preserved ring.
