Up for auction is a vibrant and graphically masterful rarity of Anatolian textile art: An antique Dazkırı (Dazkiri) rug from West Anatolia (Turkey), hand- knotted in the late 19th century (circa 1880). This collector's item captivates with its exceptionally fresh, vital color composition and rare pattern design. The inner field features a stepped construction: A large, diamond-shaped medallion in rich coral red encases a central, indigo-blue core medallion. This red field is richly filled with polychrome, stylized floral rosettes. The center is flanked by striking, golden- yellow spandrels, which are also adorned with dense, scattered floral patterns. The use of pure vegetable dyes lends the piece immense luminosity. The magnificent main field is framed by a multi-band, high-contrast border. The wide main border displays a rhythmic medallion and diamond pattern on a deep brown ground, enclosed by colorful minor borders in a zigzag design. The rug is in a generally good condition with a beautiful, even pile height and fully preserved, original fringe finishes at the ends. A highly decorative and rare accent for sophisticated interiors as well as an excellent exhibit for collectors of historical Anatolian knotting art. • Condition: Generally good condition (very well-maintained, authentic collector's condition with intact ends). • Dimensions (Metric): 133 by 98 cm.
